Do support your local shop, the list of Brupaks stockists is a good guide to those who stock top-quality ingredients. There is a fairly comprehensive list at yobrew. They also suggest typing "home brew" into the online yellow pages.

John and Patsy Braithwaite have made the Hop and Grape one of the leading homebrew shops in the country. They have a full range of malt, hops and yeast (liquid yeast is from White labs). They also import a formidable range of equipment. For knowledgeable and helpful service you need look no further.
Huddersfield: Aurora
Brupaks of Honley near Huddersfield have searched far and wide to bring specialised materials and equipment to the UK market. Their website site shows you what's available through their stockists. There is a retail shop (Aurora) at the warehouse where Brupaks products can be purchased by personal callers only. They do not offer a mail order service as this is adequately handled by their select group of retailers, a full list of which is on the website. Opening hours are: Mon-Wed: 10am - 5.30pm, Thurs: 10am - 6pm, Fri: 10am - 4pm, Sat & Sun Closed.)
It's easy to get to - about fifteen minutes walk from Honley station on the startlingly scenic Sheffield to Huddersfield railway line.
We were made most welcome when we visited - Clive and Janet were liberal with advice and information. They also sell speciality teas and teapots - bonus! (DJE July 2007)

South Leics: Bells Brewery
At Ullesthorpe, not far from Lutterworth. They have a "farm shop" attached to the brewery selling local products, and a small range of brewing & wine making equipment and kits, but the real interest is there range of grains and hops, grains are supplied by Warminster and crushed and they sell them at 90p per kilo and hops at £12 per kilo, they have a 5 barrel plant and I think they normally brew twice a week. John the brewer always seems happy to chat about making beer, the benefits of this yeast or that, the issues of beer duty, what he thinks about SIBA etc. The shop also as a large selection of bottled beers. Richard Burns runs this friendly shop in leafy Surrey. He's also the organiser of a Craft Brewing Festival that takes place every November in nearby Sutton. He runs mashing course from time to time as required and there's also a cider making course in Autumn, although it's a well-kept secret because it's usually over-subscribed.

Johnson's was one first homebrewing shops to set up when Mr Mauldling relaxed the brewing laws; as a result of this the staff have extensive knowledge of all things fermentable. They offer a full range of beer ingredients and equipment from Youngs and Brupaks including a vast stock of beer kits. Barnstaple: North Devon Homebrews
North Devon Homebrews has recently set up a new shop in Barnstaple, after the Braunton shop closed down due to retirement. The owners have an extensive range of equipment and ingredients from Ritchie, Youngs and Brupaks, offering a next day delivery for all things ordered via the Internet before 4 pm. A range of fresh yeasts is stocked, together with a good selection of unusual malts from Brupaks, plus modern brewing kit. Questions on brewing via email will be answered within 2 days. (GK)
